A Rune Casting* For 2015 The Upcoming Year
I wait for nightfall at the Dark Moon closest to Winter Solstice. I cast the wolf-bone runes again and again onto the reindeer pelt, once for each dark moon and once for each full moon in the coming year. I ask for guidance and wisdom. The rune staves are signatures of powerful forces of nature and life, attuned to the star patterns in the night sky and the energy lines we walk here on earth. With each casting a story unfolds. The rune Calc appears a significant number of times in the casting of the Wheel for the coming year 2015. Calc is the sacred container that is emptied, the natural progression from being full. The presence of this rune asks the question: How often have we raised the mead horn, sworn a solemn oath to the gods and then drank all of the contents, forgetting to pour some out, back to the earth to nourish her, back to the ancestors to honor them and back to the World Tree Yggdrasil, to feed her roots? This is a year where we will have to hold an accounting for how much we have taken and how much we have given back. We cannot prosper, the earth cannot flourish, life cannot thrive when we consume all for ourselves, forgetting to give back. We are reaping the results of this on many levels. Calc reminds us of this. It is not about cutting back, or limiting. It’s about having a full cup and sharing. The gesture of drinking, honoring and pouring out takes place in the present moment, and in your present location. Not sending the cup off to places you've never been and to people you don’t know, expecting someone else to pour it out. Calc is about drinking and pouring out right where you are standing, where you live, in your community, in your city, in your home. The Yr rune, the bow, carries the message of focus, taking aim and release, remembering that sometimes we must pull back in order to go forward. Pertho also carries a strong presence, a rune of great uncertainty which reminds us we have freedom to make choices and at the same time are restricted and affected by circumstances, events and energies outside ourselves. There is much more to be gleaned from this casting. One powerful way to experience it is to schedule an appointment for your own personal casting for the year and explore how your energies are woven into the pattern that is already being laid down by the Norns. A personal casting takes about one hour and can be done either in person or by phone. The cost is $150. Contact me through my website. The word prediction comes from Latin meaning to say before. It can be a foreknowing based on experience or wisdom gained through means of divination. My relationship with the runes isn’t that I read them. It is more accurately described as they speak to me and share wisdom through vibration. I attempt as best as I am able to interpret this information in a way that is relevant to the time in which we are living. Spiders are everywhere this time of year and there’s only the reality of life and sudden death down at the spider's level.
I love spiders. My first tattoo was a very large spider on my left forearm. I carry her with me to remind me of her wisdom. Spiders established their own web sites long before any of us appeared on the scene and each species has its own distinct, inherited pattern. Spiders create from their own bodies. The building of a web starts with a single, super-strength strand of silk that is spun by specialized spinnerets. Spider doesn’t force or squeeze, she just releases the silk from her body and then trusts the wind to carry the filament across wide intervals of space, sometimes a mere four feet, sometimes across an entire river. Spider creates and releases until this strand of silk connects with something. This is called kiting, this allowing to be carried by the breeze, not knowing. Spider knows when there’s something in the air. If for some reason the strand doesn’t make contact with something and attach, spider will often gobble up the strand and recycle its protein and try again. Once connection is made, spider sets to work reinforcing the strand and then uses it to begin building the web. Sometimes this single bridge thread is left in place overnight marking or claiming territory, and the web building begins the following day. I don’t know about you but most often when I’m ready to create something I experience a certain amount of fear and uncertainty, usually stemming from the fact that I don’t know the how of it, and sometimes I don’t even know the what. I just know. Spider reminds me that all I need to do is remember and trust. Remember that I create from the very substance of myself, my body. Remember that I know how to build a web and that each one of them carries my own distinct, inherited pattern. Remember that I need only to release and then trust. Trust that my silken thread, be it delicate and fine or thick and strong, will be carried by the breeze of life and it will attach somewhere and then I can begin. A spider builds her web because she’s hungry. Being hungry is about being alive. What are you hungry for? Ingrid, the Rune Woman Wise and Irreverent Awaken Your Hunger It's hard to imagine trying to use the same tool for everything. A hammer is best suited for hammering and a garlic press doesn't do a good job of grating cheese. The same principle holds true for the spiritual tools we use and for the beings we call upon to assist us in our daily, human activities. This truth became quite evident recently in a reading I did for a woman. The rune that presented itself was Ac, rune of the mighty oaks, guardian trees of the Darkwood or Ironwood. Ac showed me that there was a powerful, strong energy that was an obstacle standing in the way of what this woman was needing to accomplish. Sometimes oaks are struck by lightening but this was one that literally needed to be cut down. During the reading she wasn't quite sure who or what this tree might be but after a couple of days she contacted me and explained that she now understood who the oak was. I wrote back reminding her that oak is hard to cut and needed the invention of iron to accomplish the act. I suggested she call upon the Forgers of Metal, the Duerger, also known as Dwarves or Swartalves. They would assist her in creating something strong enough to use. She replied that she had been using a screw driver to hammer nails. She'd been calling on the beings of love and light and one of the saints but they were not the best suited for the job. She ended the email by saying, 'here come the forgers of metal.' There are many levels to the Nine Worlds of the Great Tree Yggdrasil. To call only upon light beings is out of balance and rather foolish, not unlike trying to drive nails with a screw driver. The runes teach us of the value, necessity, beauty and balance of both the light and the dark. The question that begs to be answered is, Who are you in the story? Well who am I and who are you?
It's the endless question begging to be answered on these web sites and blogs and networking platforms., like a job interview or a personal ad or a resume, where we must look for and find the list, the endless lineup of credentials, all the letters and titles after our names. Credential has it root in the word creed and creed at its root means belief in or acceptance that something is true. So who are the credentials for, really? The reader, the seeker? Or do I/we need the credentials to believe in ourselves? Just what is it that makes me or anyone else belief-worthy? Is it the school or university that someone graduated from that lends credibility? Is someone belief-worthy because they're certified or approved and if so, by whom? And then how does someone determine the credibility of the institution or the certification upon which the credentials are based? Is it by personal experience or is it anecdotal? Is trust in someone based upon popular belief in the credibility of their credentials? There are unscrupulous lawyers and dangerous doctors with credentials from prestigious universities. And certified financial planners whose finances are a disaster. If we always look for the credentials does it somehow discourage us from trusting our intuition or override our inner sense of knowing? Are we discouraged from trusting our own sense of knowing? Have we been convinced that we're not capable of knowing what is true and who to trust? When we put our trust only in the credentials do we step away from personal accountability and responsibility for the choices we make about the credibility of the individual? Who am I? Do I have any credentials? Can you believe in me? Can I believe in myself? Who are you? What makes you believable? What are you hungry for?
